Disable Autorun

This article explains how to disable autorun using the Windows Registry Editor feature. The Autorun feature executes a program automatically when a removable device such as a USB flash drive or CD/DVD is inserted into a computer. However, this feature can be exploited by malware and viruses to spread automatically from one computer to another. For that reason, it is generally recommended to disable Autorun.

To disable Autorun, follow these steps:

1. Open the Registry Editor by pressing the Windows key + R and typing "regedit" in the Run box.
2. Navigate to the following key in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value by right-clicking on the right pane of the Registry Editor and selecting New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Name the new value "NoDriveTypeAutoRun."
5. Double-click on the newly created NoDriveTypeAutoRun value to open its Properties window.
6. In the Value data field, enter the hexadecimal value "FF" to disable Autorun for all drives.
7. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

It is recommended to reboot your computer after making changes to registry keys.
